Summer Cool

Our challenge this week at Outlawz Alcohol Markers Challenges is Anything Goes with a Christmas/Winter Holiday option.

June's sponsor for the Outlawz Alcohol Markers Challenges is Delicious Doodles.  The prize is four digis of the winner's choice from Teri's shop.  She has some amazing digis, so be sure to check it out her shop, then play along with this week's challenge for a chance to win this prize!

Here's my card that uses Delicious Doodles' Mistletoe Kiss.

Mistletoe Kiss was slightly resized in PhotoElements then printed onto Neenah cardstock using my laser printer. The image was then colored with Copic markers to match the very old Wassail 6x6 pad by Basic Grey.

I must admit that I made a rather huge color mistake. I didn't realize that mistletoe berries are white and/or pink white. My confused brain thought they were red. HOLLY berries are red, not mistletoe... Oops. PSA, don't eat mistletoe leaves, they're poisonous.

Anyway, her nails got a touch of Clear Spica Glitter pen and all the miscolored berries and her nails received several coats of Clear Gelly Glaze pen to make 'em shiny and dimensional.

The sentiment was stamped onto a die-cut and gemstones were used to finish the card.

Thanks for visiting today.

2014_06_decoart

The excitement continues on the fourth day of the world tour of amazing artists that have been playing with Stampendous, DecoArt, and Princeton Artist Brushes via inspired by Willow Wolfe products!

If you missed the beginning of this journey, be sure to go back and check it out! MONDAY - TUESDAY - WEDNESDAY

At the recent Society of Decorative Painters Convention in San Diego Stampendous personnel had the chance to meet with the folks at DecoArt and really gush over their products! There we met Susie Wolfe and we had a chance to catch her in action demonstrating our very own Stampendous Creative Palette! Susie showed us how easy it is to use the palette as a practice pad for decorative painting strokes which is just one more way the Creative Palette makes it easier for painters to get to the fun parts of painting. Here, Susie shows you her technique. She's using a practice sheet created by Helen and Noreen of Just For You. These ladies hand paint each practice sheet and sell them at SDP events.

Oh yes! This blog hop has prizes! DecoArt is sending three sets of their Media Fluid Acrylics, Princeton Artist Brushes via inspired by Willow Wolfe is donating Select 3750 Brushes and some Catalyst Wedges, and we'll be adding a Stampendous Creative Palette so you can practice all the techniques you'll see this week. We'll be sending three prize packages to commenters with U.S. Mailing Addresses, and DecoArt will be sending three generous sample packages to international commenters, so all our friends can play.

Wait until you see what our other artists have created!

Visit each blog, leave a comment! Like Stampendous, DecoArt, Princeton Artist Brushes, and inspired by Willow Wolfe on Facebook! We've also got a Pinterest Board started!

Ready for your trip around the world??? Climb on board!

You should have arrived here from Suzanne Czosek's blog!

Here's my notebook!

Floral Lady by Stampendous was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. Clear Gelly Glaze pen was used to give her pearls dimension and shine. I used a Nestabilities Petite Oval die to die-cut the image panel, which was set aside while I worked on my notebook cover.

My notebook started life as a kraft colored notebook. I removed the covers, coated them with gesso, then set them aside to let the gesso dry.

140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock by Strathmore was cut to fit the cover of the notebook. A Martha Stewart Border punch was used to punch a polka dotted scalloped border from generic white cardstock, which was adhered to the bottom of the cardstock panel with Matte Multi Medium. I used the Fancy Floral Corner die from SCACD's Fancy Floral and Key Corner die set to die-cut white cardstock. These two Fancy Floral Corner die-cuts were adhered to the upper corner. A variety of flower punches and QuicKutz dies were used to die-cut and/or punch white cardstock. These flowers were adhered to the Mixed Media cardstock panel.

Primary Cyan and Pthalo Green/Yellow Media Fluid Acrylic paints were each mixed with Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paint on a palette. The light blue was brushed from the top of the
Mixed Media cardstock panel towards the bottom and the light green was brushed from the bottom of the Mixed Media cardstock panel towards the top. The light blue and green met and blended together beautifully! I used a pouncy tool (its technical name) to add some Magenta and Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paints flecks here and there.

Two Petite Oval Nestabilities were used to create a white cardstock frame. A Petite Oval Scalloped Nestabilities die was used to die-cut white cardstock to mat the frame and the colored image. The frame and the scalloped oval were sponged with the same colors mentioned above. This was set aside to dry.

The Fancy Floral Corner die from SCACD's Fancy Floral and Key Corner die set was used to die-cut another two corners from generic white cardstock. Interference Green Media Fluid Acrylic paint was mixed with Pthalo Green/Yellow Media Fluid Acrylic paint on a palette, then painted over the Fancy Floral Corner die-cuts. Interference Media Fluid Acrylic paint was mixed with Primary Magenta Media Fluid Acrylic paint and painted over the flower parts  of the Fancy Floral Corner die-cuts. These corners were adhered over their counterparts on the painted panel.

The combo of Interference Green Media Fluid Acrylic paint and Pthalo Green/Yellow Media Fluid Acrylic paint were used to paint an old Doodlebug circle-patterned frill as well as die-cut letters. The combination of Interference Magenta Media Fluid Acrylic and Primary Magenta Media Fluid Acrylic was used to paint a Fancy Tag die-cut by Spellbinders. The letters were adhered to the tag, which was in turn adhered to the dotted border.

Glue was used to adhere Tarnished Mica from the Survival Stack Elements set to the top of the notebook and the framed Floral Lady image die-cut.

The pen was painted with Magenta Media Fluid Acrylic paint, which had been mixed with Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paint. Red-liner tape was adhered along the seam of the pen and Medium Gold Halo Glitter from the Survival Stack Elements set was sprinkled over the tape.

Die-Namics dies were used to die-cut white cardstock. The die-cut flowers were painted with Magenta Media Fluid Acrylic paint, which had been mixed with Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paint and Primary Cyan Media Fluid Acrylic paint that had been mixed with Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paint. The flowers were molded and stacked. A pink-glittered brad was changed to black with a marker, then used to hold the flower layers together. Silvery ribbon was threaded through the brad and used to attach the flower to the pen.

Anniversary, Wedding, and Love

Kim is hosting Stampotique Designers Challenge this week and her challenge theme is Anniversary, Wedding, and Love. Here's what she has to say about her challenge!
"It's Kim and I'm excited to be hosting this weeks challenge.  June here in the states is often a time of many anniversaries and weddings and so I challenge you to create with an Anniversary, Wedding or Love theme.

While you all are busy creating, I'll be celebrating with the love of my life our 18th anniversary so can't wait to see what you all come up with.  Have fun and hope you love every minute creating!"
If you'd like the chance to win $30 worth of Stampotique stamps, you should play along. Visit Stampotique Designers Challenge blog and be sure to read the rules, so that you'll have the chance to win a great prize!!!

Here's my card.

I recently purchased a set of Faber Castell's Polychromos colored pencils and brought them and some stamps, papers, and digi images out to my mom's house so that I could be productive and try them out while my mom was resting. This scene is my first try using them and I am moderately pleased with the result.

Stampotique's Henny Penny and Rooty Toot (both stamps are by Kira Nichols) are clearly besotted with each other. They were stamped using Jet Black Archival ink and colored with Polychromos pencils. When I color with Prismacolor pencils, I usually use a citrus based paint thinner as a blending agent. However, the thinner smudged the image, so I didn't blend the colored pencils at all. I don't know if the ink or paper was at fault, but since I didn't have my gazillion trillion billion black inks as back up, I just went with the flow.

I digressed. I bet you're shocked, though you probably really ARE shocked that I didn't use Copic markers to color the image. I know I am.

Oops. Digressed again. Bad me. When I got back home to Kathi's Kraft Kave, I added the sky background with chalk pencils, then "carded" the colored image using a sketch from Sunday Stamps. Sketches make life easy and I'm lazy. I had already chosen French Country 6x6 pad for my patterned paper, so it was just a matter of cutting, die-cutting, and layering. Gotta love that. I used dies from The Fishtail Stack and from a Blueprints set by Die-Namics. I didn't add a sentiment because I wasn't sure of the occasion and/or recipient of the card. I added a little clear plastic adhesive heart to finish the card.

Here's the sketch.

I shall enter this card in the following challenges:

Sugar Skull Cupcake Birthday card

Other than my post the other day, I've been a bit missing-in-action from the blog scene for the last few weeks. My mom fell ill and my sibs and I have been sharing care-taking duty. However, I did bring images, markers, and pencils with me and squeezed in a bit of coloring when I could. Therefore, my color schemes were just what popped into my head at the time, which was oddly freeing.

I got a bunch of images colored and I'm "carding" them now! Here's the first which uses SCACD's Skullie Cupcake Digital stamp, which is from the latest release of SCACD Digis! If you haven't seen these new digi stamps, you really ought to click on over to check them out! They are a mixed bag of quirky and fun images that I find totally appealing!

Anyway, here's the card!

Skullie Cupcake Digital stamp was resized in PhotoElements and printed onto Neenah cardstock with my laser printer. The image was colored with Copic markers, then fussy-cut. It was hot at my mom's so I was craving citrus and chocolate. Actually, I always crave chocolate. So the colors of my sugar skull cupcakes reflect my cravings!

The patterned papers are from old Basic Grey 6x6 pads. All layers were edged with Brushed Corduroy Distress ink. I used Die-Namics die-cuts for the patterned paper mats. SCACD's Ornate Hinge die (on sale!!!) was used to die-cut solid patterned paper to hold the sentiment. The sentiment die-cut is by Elizabeth Crafts. Vellum was cut using a Nestabilities die by Spellbinders.

Gemstones were used to finish the card!

DecoArt, Stampendous, & Princeton Artish Brush Co: Perfect together!

2014_06_decoart

I'm so excited to be participating in this week's collaborative blog hop with DecoArt , StampendousPrinceton Brushes, and inspired by Willow Wolfe. Artists from around the world are joining together to show you what you can do with stamps and acrylic paint!

There will be prizes! DecoArt is sending three sets of their Media Fluid Acrylics. Princeton Brushes, through Willow Wolfe, is supplying a Select Brush Set and a Catalyst Wedge. Stampendous is giving away a Stampendous Creative Palette!

How can you win? Simply hop to each blog and leave a comment! Three winners from the states will win the fabulous package. BUT because we have so many international players this time, DecoArt has agreed to mail out three nice sample packages to international commenters as well.

I'm the last stop on the hop!  You should have arrived here from Jessa Plant's blog.

Here's my card!

Cowgirl Boots was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. The image panel was set aside while I worked on the background.

Americana Bleached Sand Acrylic paint was sponged over 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock by Strathmore to create a neutral off-white base. I pulled out my new DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics from DecoArt's new Mixed Media Program to use on this project. Titanium White, Blue Green Light, and Cobalt Teal Hue Media Fluid Acrylic paints were mixed on a palette, dry-brushed over the Bleached Sand background, and allowed to dry. Burnt Sienna Media Fluid Acrylic paint, also from the new line, was watered down and brushed over the aqua/turquoise-ish layer.

Americana Bleached Sand Acrylic paint was sponged over a scrap of 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock, then dry-brushed with Burnt Sienna Media Fluid Acrylic paint. Watered Burnt Umber Media Fluid Acrylic paint was brushed over the Burnt Sienna layer, then a bit of watered Payne's Gray Media Fluid Acrylic paint, was brushed over it to deepen the color a tad. One-Step Crackle was brushed on and left to do its thing. I was delighted to discover that this combination yielded a wonderful cracked-leather look, which you can see in the following close-up photo!

Metallic Gold Media Fluid Acrylic paint was sponged around both painted pieces of cardstock. A Doodlebug Frills fringed border was sponged with Old Paper Distress ink and the card front was assembled.

More textures were needed, so I searched my stash and found very old natural-colored Twill tape, a horseshoe charm, and a buckle die, which I used to die-cut thin cardboard. The buckle and the metal charm were painted with Metallic Gold Media Fluid Acrylic paint. These pieces were added to the card front, which was adhered to the card.

Getting Sentimental

Gez is hosting Stampotique Designers Challenge this week and she's challenged us to Get Sentimental! Here's what she has to say about her challenge!

"Hi Gez here, I am delighted to be your hostess for this challenge.. I love sentiments and sayings, they really say it all to me! They make a piece finished! I'd like you to share some of your favourite words with us this week! They can be a main focal point or an embellishment, it's your choice! Say it with words... "

If you'd like the chance to win $30 worth of Stampotique stamps, you should play along. Visit Stampotique Designers Challenge blog and be sure to read the rules, so that you'll have the chance to win a great prize!!!

Here's my card, which uses Stampotique's Owl with Wings (Jo Capper-Sandon) and One Second...(Janet Klein).

Owl with Wings (Jo Capper-Sandon) was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink, colored with Copic markers and fussy-cut. Clear Gelly Glaze pen was used on the owl's talons and beak. Glossy Accents were added to his eyes. The owl was then set aside to dry overnight.

Several clock and gear dies (Sizzix Alterations, Spellbinders, Die-Namics, and Cherry Lynn) were used to die-cut black and/or silver metallic cardstock. All the die-cuts were adhered to a card base and Owl with Wings was perched on a watch hand.

The Vintage Alphabet die from Top Dog Dies was used to die-cut silver metallic cardstock. "Tick Tock" was adhered to the upper right and lower left corners.

One Second... was stamped on the upper right and lower left corners with VersaMark and heat embossed with silver embossing powder.

Some gemstones were used to finish the card.

A Little Box

Arwen is hosting Stampotique Designers Challenge this week and has challenged everyone to create a box! Here's what she has to say about her challenge!
"What could be better than to give a loved one something? To present a gift effectively, I make nice boxes to do so. Be it for jewelry, candy, books, etc. - for all you can make great boxes.
But the box itself is a wonderful gift idea.
Show me your boxes!
As "given away" for something or as preserves things?
I'm curious about your boxes."
If you'd like the chance to win $30 worth of Stampotique stamps, you should play along. Visit Stampotique Designers Challenge blog and be sure to read the rules, so that you'll have the chance to win a great prize!!!

My box will likely be given with something in it and is labeled "Treasures" in the hope that the recipient will keep it to hold some personal treasure.

Here it is!

My box started out its life as a plain kraft colored cardboard gift box with a debossed logo on the top. It held a small wind chime. Boxes are very useful, so I kept it and decorated it. It's roughly 3.5" x 3.5" x 1.1".

The box was painted with DecoArt's new Media Fluid Acrylics, which are part of the new DecoArt Media program. Burnt Sienna Media Fluid Acrylic paint was sponged over the top, sides, and of both the top and bottom of the box using Cut 'n' Dry Foam. When I was happy with the coverage, I added a bit of Burnt Umber MF paint to the same piece of foam and dabbed it here and there to deepen the color.

The same two paint colors (Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber) were sponged over a piece of script cardstock from an old Lost and Found 6x6 pad by My Mind's Eye. A piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam was used to apply a mixture of Blue Green Light MF, Cobalt Turquoise Tint MF, and Titanium White paint to the Daniel's Hearts (Daniel Torrente) stamp, which was then stamped over the painted patterned paper. This step was repeated a few times to add more hearts. The stamped patterned paper was then torn so it would fit the box. The torn edges were sponged with the mixture of Blue Green Light MF, Cobalt Turquoise Tint MF, and Titanium White paint, which was also used to sponge the edges of the box. Matte Multi-Medium was used to both adhere the stamped painted paper to the box top as well as to seal it.

YumYum (by Kira Nichols), who looks like he's guarding that seed like treasure, was stamped onto the same patterned paper with Tuxedo Black Memento ink, then colored with Copic markers. It was then die-cut using a Nestabilities Circle die, kept in the die, while the inside of the circle was lightly traced with Copic markers. YumYum's background was then colored using Copic markers. An Ironworks Circle die (Spellbinders) was used to die-cut the same patterned paper, which was then colored with a BG45 Copic marker. The image circle was adhered to the Ironworks die-cut, then both were adhered to the box top. Multiple layers of Matte Multi-Medium were sponged over the top, sides, and bottom of the box.

Copper foil tape, which apparently is used as a snail deterrent by gardeners, was die-cut with a border die from the Ironworks die set and with the Delicate Chain die by Memory Box. The chains and the border were sponged with Jade and Verdigris Vintaj Patinas, adhered to the sides of the box, then sponged with Matte Multi-Medium. A small scrap leftover from the painted patterned paper was die-cut with a Memory Box die and rub-on letters were added for the sentiment. More layers of Matte Multi-Medium were used to seal all sides of the box.

Here are two other views of the box!

Voodoo Magic!

Our challenge this week at Outlawz Alcohol Markers is "Inspired by a Song, Book, or Movie Title".

We have a brand new sponsor for the June Alcohol Markers Challenges.  For the month of June, we are sponsored by Delicious Doodles.  The prize is 4 digis of the winner's choice from Teri's shop.  She has some amazing digis, so be sure to check it out!

Here's my card that uses Voodoo Woman by Delicious Doodles.

The truth is that I just love this image and wanted to use it. There are so many great references, but I went with Black Magic Woman, which was written by Peter Green, then covered to much acclaim by Santana. This song came out when I was a teen, so the song evokes so many different memories.

Voodoo Woman was resized in PhotoElements and printed out onto Neenah Cardstock using my laser printer. It was colored with Copic markers, which I'll list below since I used some new color combos for the skin and hair. When I was done coloring it, I added some Clear Gelly Glaze pen on the earring, her nails, and on the pin heads.

The patterned paper is from the Little Black Dress collection by Basic Grey. I had just the one sheet in 12x12 and have no recollection of purchasing it. I'm glad I had it because it matches the color I used for her dress.

I used a ribbon die from Die-Namics and some lace from my stash, which was attached with my Tiny Attacher. The flowers are white fabric flowers that I stacked and then added a small black flower from Doodlebug. A skull bead and some other beads were added to a corsage pin and stabbed into the flower. A Barbed Wire die by Die-Namics and photo corners die by QuicKutz were used to die-cut Flashing Tape.

Thanks for visiting today!

Copic markers used:
Skin: E01, E11, R0000, R00, VB000, BV00
Eyes: BG90, BG93
Lips and Nails: R24, R56, R59
Hair: R89, E07, E17, E18, E19, E29, Y35
Dress: BG93, BG96, BG99
Earring: E41, E40

Bombshell's June Pin-Up Challenge: Skulls!

The talented and lovely Cheryl Valadez has returned to the Bombshell fold in the role of Ms. June! As a guest designer, she got to select the challenge and chose "Skulls"!

I love me some skulls, so this one was a lot of fun, though my project went to visit Cheryl in Albuquerque, where it took a left turn.

Here it is!

I decided to use the Muertos Doll Digital stamp set for my project. I'll admit that I saw a "See no evil" skull thing somewhere on Pinterest and decided to put my own spin on it, so this digi set was perfect for it. The Muertos Doll Digital set contains two full skeletons and skulls 'n body parts. I took the skulls 'n body parts, manipulated them in Photo Elements, until I had a "See No Evil", "Hear No Evil", and a "Speak No Evil" doll. These were saved, reduced, printed out onto Neenah cardstock using my laser printer, then colored using Copic markers. I put a yellow Copic background around the dolls, then had a bit of a mishap with Antique Linen Distress ink and ended up having to add some Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink as well. This was put aside while I created my background.

While I was creating my "No Evil" trio, I realized that "No Evil" backwards was "Live On" and I went with that idea.

I dug deep into my stash and found ginormous slide mounts. I die-cut the title (Top Dog Dies), some skulls (BossKut), heart lockets, keys, pointing hand, (QuicKutz), flames (Die-Namics) and then punched some hearts and flowers. I dug up some old Jolie's flowers as well. All of the die-cuts and punches were adhered to the slide mount and coated with a layer of gesso. Then I went to pick up my CSA share.

When I got home, the gesso was dry. I decided to try out my new DecoArt's new Media Fluid Acrylics, which are part of the new DecoArt Media program. I painted the entire piece with Medium Grey Value 6 because I wanted to have good coverage in and around all of the die-cuts. I then blended Dioxazine Purple into Phthalo Blue from the bottom to the top and Cadmium Red into Quinacridone Red from top to bottom. Some watered down Titanium White was sponged onto the lower left hand corner and a few other places. The skulls were painted with straight up Titanium White and Carbon Black was dabbed into the skulls' eye and nose holes. The flames along the right side were painted with a combination of yellow, orange, and red (I forgot to mark the color names down, bad me).

My first impression of these paints is that a little bit goes a long way, that they blend really easily, and that they dry quickly. I really like that their relative opacity is on the label, so I knew which were opaque and which were translucent.

But I digressed. When the paint was dry, I added White Fire, Pewter, Indigo, Rose Quartz, Onyxite, and Florentine Treasure Gold to all the die-cuts to make them metallic and shimmery. Jet Black StazOn ink was sponged through a skull stencil by Andy Skinner for Tando Creative.

I adhered the two parts and decided that adding metallic charms was overkill, so I proclaimed it done. I'm not sure how I feel about the project, but I did have fun making it, so I guess that's what counts.

Stampotique Celebration Challenge!

Kim Howard is hosting Stampotique Designers Challenge this week and her theme is Celebration!

This is what she had to say about her challenge!
"Today we have a super fun challenge for you.
We are excited at Stampotique that our fans have helped us grow so much and that our stamps, challenges and Facebook page have become such a big hit.  In honor of our excitement, and our 150th challenge, our theme is CELEBRATION.  We want you to create with celebration in mind, whether it's celebrating a birthday, anniversary, wedding, graduation or new baby...let's celebrate!

Not to put a damper on our celebration, but our team is bidding a few of our members farewell. Maria has been with the team and has shown us how talented she is not only as an artist but as a stamp designer.  Tanja has only been with us a short while but we have enjoyed seeing her creations each week.  We celebrate the opportunity we had to have them on our design team and wish them the best.

We will NOT be having a new call for designers as our current designers will all be remaining for another term.  We are happy to say we are looking for 4 new guest designers and so along with this fun challenge, we will pick some of our guest designers from those who are participating in our 150th challenge. Along with the chance to be a guest designer, we'll also be picking a random winner for a $30 gift certificate for Stampotique stamps.

Can't wait to see how you celebrate this week!"

Owl with Wings (Jo Capper Sandon) Stack of Birds (Kira Nichols), and Banner (France Papillon) were all stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Neenah cardstock, colored with Copic markers, and fussy cut.

The die-cut bottle was in my stash. I added a label and a gold foil top. Owl with Wings (Jo Capper Sandon), acted as sommelier, but was not prepared to be sent air born with the cork, which was cut from real cork paper.

A Die-Namics die was used to die-cut vellum for two of the Stack of Birds' champagne glasses.

A Memory Box Grass die was used to die-cut green cardstock. The clouds dies are from two different Memory Box die sets and were used to die-cut vellum.

The letters in the Banner are glitter sticker letters from Making Memories, which means that they are old! The scene was created and added to a large card.
